Health Smart Campaign

Today’s Health Smart Reminder: Eating a healthful snack between meals prevents the body from switching into starvation mode. If the body goes without food for longer than four to six hours, its metabolic rate may slow down in a biological response to food deprivation. The body reacts as if it is starving and conserves stored energy for later. This primitive metabolic feature may have been useful during Paleolithic times when our ancestors hunted for big game, ate a feast and then went for several days without eating again. But for us, it means that the rate at which you burn calories slows down big time — and anything more than the normal amount of calories you eat gets stored as fat.

There will be a fundraiser to benefit Health Smart PKY on Thursday, April 20, from 6pm to 9pm at Blaze Pizza on Archer Road.  Those attending the fundraiser must show a flyer at the register in order for us to receive 20% of the proceeds from Blaze.  Flyers are available in the front office or by emailing Dr. Geiger at cgeiger@pky.ufl.edu.  You can provide a paper copy of the flyer or simply show it on your phone in order to help out our effort.

Look for the Facebook page called “Health-Smart P.K. Yonge Fundraiser” and please share it with your digital community.  See you at Blaze Pizza next Thursday night!
