Coaches:

The team will be coached by Ms. Lindsey Franklin, the 12th grade ELA/ AP Literature and Composition teacher for PKY and Dr. Ron Dearinger, who has played and coached USTA tennis for over 50 years.

Communication:

Please sign-up for our Team Remind App (Send a text to 81010 with the message @pkygirlst)  by clicking this link. We use this app for important news and updates throughout the season. You can download a cell phone app and check on this website to get updated announcements and info.

The best way to communicate with the coach is to email Ms. Franklin at her school email of lfranklin@pky.ufl.edu

Important Announcements:

Here are some important items to do/know about prior to the season.

Please make sure to have your physical forms submitted to our athletic director, Valerie Flournoy in person or by email at: vflournoy@pky.ufl.edu asap. In order for you to practice and play with the team two forms must be completed and entered in the system prior to try outs on Jan.15th.

The two forms are the EL2 (Physical signed by a physician) and EL3 (Consent): https://fhsaa.com/documents/2023/3/3/EL2_Form.pdf

https://fhsaa.com/documents/2023/3/6/EL3_Form.pdf

Our first practice will be the week of January 15th, which is a school holiday. This date is set by the FHSAA and is not decided by the Coach. If you are unable to attend one day of try-outs you will still be considered for the team as long as you attend the other days.

Tryouts for the team will take place the week of January 15th and will run from 8-10am on Monday the 15th and from 3:30-5:30pm on Wednesday (1/17)  and Thursday (1/18). Again, you do not need to attend each session, but it is recommended that you attend as many as possible. The team rosters for Varsity and JV will then be announced the following week. They will be posted on the group Remind and on the door to Mrs. Franklin’s classroom in alphabetical order.

I am still working on the season practice/match schedule. It will be posted here when completed. Again, players must have up-to-date FHSAA forms filled out and on file with PK before ANY practice/match participation can occur.

You can check out specific information from the FHSAA here.  Our District is 1A, R2, D4:  https://fhsaa.com/sports/tennis

Practice  Info:

Practices will be held at the Albert Ray Massey Park – Joyce Oransky Tennis Center

at Westside Park located at 1001 NW 34th St, Gainesville, FL 32605.

Information about the courts can be found here:

https://www.playtennisgainesville.com/locations/

Team practice will be weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays starting on January 22nd and running until the end of the regular season on April 12th.  Each session will start at 3:30pm and finish by 5:30pm. Please be prompt with pick-up from practice.

Players are welcome to wear anything they feel comfortable in for practice sessions. Please bring a hat/visor, water bottle, sunscreen, and a tennis racket to every practice (and match).

It is the expectation that all players will attend each practice and each match. We understand that absences will happen, but please be sure to communicate with the coaches as far in advance as possible.  Parents and players may email or send notice in Remind in order to communicate in regards to absences or late arrivals.  After three unexcused absences, players will be dropped from the team.

Match Info:

2023-24 Team Schedule

* This will be updated as matches are scheduled.

In order for a player to attend districts with the team, they must play in at least seven matches during the regular season.

Match play will usually take place on Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday at our home location if possible. However, this will also depend on the schedule of the other teams that we play. We will also travel for away matches during the season.

For matches girls should wear either uniform dresses or blue, black, or white bottoms and the PKY team shirts. Players should have one top in each color, blue and white. The official colors and tops will be discussed in advance of matches as the team will need to match for each game.

Visors/hats and tennis shoes of any color are allowed.

JV players do not need to attend every Varsity game, but it is recommended that they attend as many as possible in order to support the team.  Varsity players will be expected to attend every match, regardless of if the player may or may not be playing in the match at that event.

We are all excited for the 2024 season and look forward to seeing you all on the courts!
