More to Celebrate & Holiday Reminders

Just one week before break and holiday trivia in the secondary building has been a big hit, our 9th grade officers have been delivering holiday-grams, and we’re ready to see some festive feet, ugly sweaters, and holiday pajamas next week.

Just for the record, did you know that mistletoe is actually a parasitic plant?

Things to celebrate…
— Ian McKee finishing 18th in a field of 92 at the 2021 National K-12 Chess Championships
— Dr. Geiger’s nomination being submitted to the Florida Principal of the Year competition
— A great Family Webinar focused on Healthy Online Behaviors hosted by our Student and Family Services team
— Incredible win over Buchholz by our boys soccer team
— Holiday meal provided by our cafeteria next Wednesday
— Stellar performances by our Thespians at the District 12 Thespian Festival on Saturday, December 4.
— Athletes who signed this week: Laci Herron (swimming, University of Western Florida, Timothy Shay Jr. (baseball, Messiah University, PA), Alex Barnett (soccer, University of North Florida).
— Faculty holding onto the Student/Faculty Basketball title: 52-46
— Roaring Riptide Robotics adapting toys for the holidays.
— Our first PTO Winter PopUp shirt shop!
— Hearing holiday music from elementary students when you walk in from the parking lot
— National Junior Honor Society contributing to a community cleanup


A few important notes as we look toward Winter Break…

Early Dismissal K-12 | December 16 & 17 | 11:00am
All students will be dismissed at 11:00am.
Grab and go lunches will be available from the Cafeteria.
ALL STUDENTS must be OFF CAMPUS by 12:00pm unless in Blue Wave Afterschool.

Three Down Countdown
On the last three days of school, our three day countdown is as follows:
Wed., December 15 –  Festive Feet Day – Wear your favorite holiday-themed socks.
Thur., December 16 – Ugly Sweater Day – Wear your ugliest holiday sweater.
Fri., December 17 – Pajama Day – If they’re holiday themed, even better!

Secondary Students | Canvas
Student access to Canvas will close at 2:30pm on December 17
Canvas will re-open for students at 8:00am on January 10, 2022.

School Chromebooks | Monitoring and Response Over Break
The use of school Chromebooks and other web-based devices is monitored when students connect to the Internet on campus and off campus. Alerts triggered by Internet behavior on a school-issued device over the winter break will be addressed when school resumes on January 10, 2022.

Holiday Break Info & Communications | Dates 2021-22
Main Office Closed: Monday December 19 – Friday, December 31
Campus Opens (for faculty and staff): Monday, January 3
Emails received during the break will be answered after January 3.

Second Semester Begins & Students Return Monday, January 10

Alachua County Schools return on January 3, P.K. Yonge Returns on January 10
