Student: Riptide Robotics Kicks Off 2018 Season

On Saturday, January 6th P.K. Yonge’s Roaring Riptide First Robotics Team 4118 will be joining University of Florida’s Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering students and faculty for the kickoff event for the 2018 FIRST Robotics Competition!

P.K. Yonge and a number of high school robotics teams will be meeting at the New Physics building with students and faculty from the University of Florida’s Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering department in anticipation of the FIRST Robotics ‘game’ for the 2018 season. The ‘game’ is revealed and teams immediately get started on formulating ideas and plans for the build of their 2018 robot. On of the teams in attendance will be the The Cell-Ticks, a rookie team with whom the Roaring Riptide will work this season.

The competition begins each year with a Kickoff event where teams all over the country and around the world stay glued to the FIRST website in anticipation for the reveal of the “game” of the season and develop their robot for the season events.

FIRST Robotics engages young people in science, engineering, and technology to inspire innovative thinking foster the development of self-confidence, communication, and leadership.

First Robotics Vision and Mission

The Roaring Riptide team also uses skills gained in FIRST to work on community services projects like modifying small cars and toys to assist students with disabilities.
