MS “On Stage!” Class Performs with The Chieftains

For P.K. Yonge’s middle school performing arts students, an incredible opportunity to share a stage with an internationally renowned group is coupled with an engaging entrée into learning about international music, indigenous instruments, and foreign culture.

On Sunday, March 10, P.K. Yonge’s middle school “On Stage!” performing arts class has been invited to share the stage with The Chieftains, a world renowned traditional Irish band. Formed in 1963, the Chieftains have known world-wide success and played a significant role in popularizing Irish music around the world.

Middle school theatre instructor Rachel Snyder is thrilled about this opportunity for her performers. “It’s definitely an honor for us,” said Snyder. “And an incredible opportunity for so many aspects of our curriculum to come together.”

Ms. Snyder’s students learn the art and history of performance in her class. This week, they’ll be rehearsing for the show on the weekend, and learning more about the Chieftains, Irish culture, and the uilleann pipes, tin whistle, bodhrán (goatskin drum), and harp.
