Student: Five (!) Students Accepted to Rotary Youth Exchange

December 6, 2017

With a growing focus on global competencies, today’s students are looking to international experiences to fill out their academic careers and enhance their lives.

Five students at P.K. Yonge are no exception – Catalina Aguirre, Ana Barrientos, Cosette MacLaren, Alex McInnis, and Rebecca Stewart (photo not available) have all been accepted to the Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) Program for the 2018-19 school year.

Varying in ages (9th-12th grade) and interests, these five students are indicative of a generation that sees the world as a logical next step to build experiences to carry into their adult lives. The five will find out which country they will call home on December 13th and they are all very excited.

Twenty-two students were selected for RYE for the entire district, and five of those are from P.K. Yonge. One parent noted that this isn’t an accident – due to the diversity and open-mindedness she feels that the school promotes. The school hopes that this is an indication of concerted efforts to broaden the horizons of students on the campus – promoting the study of world languages and literature, and offering international opportunities in Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
