Carla Ann BrownCongratulations to Dr. Carla-Ann Brown who was recently selected as a 2022-2023 Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Research Program Scholar.

As part of the suite of Fulbright Teacher Exchanges, the Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Research Program provides an opportunity for K–12 educators from the United States to conduct research and engage in other professional learning experiences abroad for three to six months. Participants work on individual Inquiry Projects on a topic relevant to education in the United States and the host country, take courses at a host university, and collaborate with colleagues on educational practices to improve student learning. Dr. Brown will study in the United Kingdom during the Spring Semester.

Dr. Brown is a University School Assistant Professor at P.K Yonge DRS at the University of Florida and the 2022 P.K. Yonge District Teacher of the Year. She began teaching in 2013 and transitioned to P.K Yonge in 2016, where she currently serves as the sixth-grade team leader and instructor for World Cultures. Carla-Ann received a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 2012, a Master’s degree in Elementary Education in 2013, and her Doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 2021.

Her primary research focuses on personalized and Universally Designed student experiences through standards-based and project-based learning and the dismantling of inequitable educational practices. As a practitioner-researcher and social justice advocate with over nineteen professional presentations (international, national, and state), experience leading professional learning opportunities for faculty and administration, and several publications in peer-reviewed journals, she has contributed research and personal reflection on Culturally Sustaining teaching and learning and the journey towards equitable instruction over her academic tenure.
