Dr. Carla-Ann Brown Recognized with University of Florida’s Superior Accomplishment Award for Diversity and Inclusion
April 20, 2023Dr. Carla-Ann Brown was recognized as the 2023 University of Florida university-level Superior Accomplishment Award for Diversity and Inclusion.
Dr. Carla-Ann Brown leads by example within our school community to develop and establish critical conversation around diversity and inclusion.
As a classroom teacher, her middle grades classes are always forward thinking and include difficult conversations. She teaches her students how to approach these conversations with dignity, respect, and integrity.
As a colleague, Carla-Ann has assisted in moving the P.K. Yonge faculty by serving as a leader of the Racial Equity Council, the Faculty Hiring of Color committee, and being an active representative on both Faculty Policy Council and the School Advisory Council.
As a leading educator and researcher, Carla-Ann’s work has focused on advancing culturally sustaining pedagogy. She has also published and presented numerous works about racial equity and education.
The work in diversity and inclusion exceeds Carla-Ann’s job description as an instructor for P.K. Yonge. She is passionate about the work being done in this field and brings this enthusiasm to her students and colleagues. P.K. Yonge’s K-12 students are exploring their identities, cultural relationships, and the world around them. Carla-Ann teaches them to use a lens of diversity and inclusion as they are becoming more responsible adults.
Carla-Ann puts into practice diversity and inclusion elements in all aspects of her work as a scholar, teacher, and colleague. P.K. Yonge is especially proud of Dr. Carla-Ann Brown and her vital and valuable work.
