Secondary School – Suicide Awareness Night 2/21
February 10, 2017Hello Families of Secondary Students,
We are inviting you to an important evening program for parents addressing suicide awareness. This program is in response to the following alarming statistics: 44,000 Americans die by suicide annually. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among people aged 10-24, with 5,500 deaths annually.
Our event will take place on
Tuesday, February 21st at 5:30 pm
Performing Arts Center
Participants will learn to identify signs of suicide, how to respond to signs of suicide and learn about protective factors.
Laurel Nesbit, Project Coordinator of the Alachua County Crisis Center is our guest speaker. P.K. Yonge’s secondary school counselors will review our suicide prevention awareness program. All secondary students will participate in this prevention program during the month of February.
Please note that a suicide prevention resource is currently being posted to both the middle school and high school sections of our website. We look forward to this opportunity to join with you in support of the social-emotional health of our students. Please contact your child’s school counselor if you have any questions or concerns.
