Reminder: Campus COVID-19 Protocols, Communications & Face Coverings

December 8, 2020

With the recent return of some students to campus in our secondary school, and the shift to changing class locations each period, we are sending this reminder about our COVID-19 related response protocol, school communications, and face coverings.

Though we continue to make efforts to limit close contact and follow masking and physical distancing guidelines, we fully expect to encounter COVID-19 related events on campus in the coming weeks. When COVID-19 related events arise, UF Health Screen, Test & Protect assists the Florida Department of Health and leads our response.

When a positive case is identified in the on-campus community, P.K. Yonge’s P.K. Yonge’s COVID-19 Campus Response is initiated and information is shared with UF Health in order for contact tracing to begin.

UF Health interviews the positive case to complete contact tracing, determines which individuals have been in close contact with the positive case, and provides a list of close contacts for P.K. Yonge to notify. UF Health also contacts individuals identified to provide details regarding quarantine, testing, and clearance dates for return to campus.

In accordance with privacy laws, P.K. Yonge is not able to share information with the whole school community regarding specific COVID-19 cases. Affected individuals will be contacted directly. P.K. Yonge will NOT send communications campus-wide regarding positive COVID-19 diagnoses or exposure. Families may stay up-to-date with COVID-19 related events on campus by checking the COVID-19 Campus Update which is updated every Friday.

Please NOTE: All P.K. Yonge students returning to campus after absence related to COVID-19 or any other illness will be required to check in with the nurse and receive a slip from the clinic that indicates that the student is cleared to return to class. If the student does not have a slip, faculty are asked to send the student to the clinic to check in with the nurse before the student attends class.

Masks and Face Coverings | Appropriate Masks/Face Coverings
Masks should be worn any time students are indoors, outside when within 6 feet of another person, and when changing classes. If students choose to wear knitted tube-like gaiter masks, a mask that meets UF guidelines must be worn underneath (see Appropriate Masks/Face Coverings). Masks with vents do not meet UF guidelines, so we ask that students not use this type of mask on campus.

The health and safety of our school community is our top priority and we are so grateful for student, family, faculty, and staff efforts to help us maintain systems to limit the impact of COVID-19 on campus.
