July 16, 2020

Kindergarten Families — The beginning of Kindergarten is such an exciting milestone for children and we are eager to welcome you all to P.K. Yonge and the K-1 Learning Community!

Starting kindergarten is an emotional time for children and families. This year the welcome for our newest Blue Wave family members will be different and we are making plans for the warmest welcome possible while attending to health, safety, and social-emotional well being of our littlest learners.

Below is some information that we hope will help families as they prepare for this big step!

School starts on Monday, August 24th online and on campus.

Kindergarten students, both on-campus and off-campus, start school with small groups of students scheduled on different days of the first week. During the first week of school the kindergarten students will be dropped off at 8:30am.

What Does Learning Off Campus (Virtually P.K.) Look Like?
Some of you have chosen for your kindergarten student to learn off campus (Virtually P.K.) online for the first semester and are curious about what this may look like. During 2019-20, Virtually P.K. was our remote instruction option. While things may change in minimal ways, Virtually P.K. will look similar this fall and the Virtually P.K. page might help you understand what the experience for off-campus learners may look like for the coming year. You may also like to review the Virtually P.K. K-1 Schedule from 2019-20.

Kindergarten Academic Assessments | Week of August 24
Kindergarten assessments originally scheduled in July will take place during the first week of school. For on-campus students, assessments will take place in person during the school day. For off-campus students, assessments will take place online. Information regarding the schedule for online assessments will be shared with families closer to the start of school.

Kindergarten Morning Drop-Off and Afternoon Pick-Up
We know that drop-off and pick-up times can be challenging for some students. Plans are being developed to help support our youngest learners at morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up on their first days of school. More information about procedures will be shared in the weeks before school starts.
