Happy Friday! October 2, 2020

October 2, 2020

Happy Friday P.K. Yonge Families — It’s the end of our 5th (actually 6th!) week back and though we encounter hiccups with technology, transitions off campus, wildlife surprises (ask Coach Brunson about the gator), and trees that fall, we’re feeling like we’re getting into some kind of regular “groove.”

We are so grateful to all students and families for being so wonderfully attentive to requirements for physical distancing and wearing face-coverings. We also appreciate patience from on-campus families in the mornings as we continue our daily screenings at drop-off locations.

This year definitely looks different, and our community is promoting new ways to connect and engage with each other in a mostly non-face-to-face world. We continue to work on new ways of doing old things and ways to do new in a school year that looks significantly different from the last. We celebrate the launch of a weekly advisory in secondary, the K-1 community meetings for on-campus and off-campus students, second and third grade lunch buddies, and the beginnings of a 4-5 community morning show!

Celebremos Nuestra Cultura (Celebrating Our Culture) is a student-produced newsletter launched to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with plans for coming editions throughout the year. 6th -12th grade students are encouraged to submit artwork, poetry, and essays by emailing Sra. Santiago | gsantiago@pky.ufl.edu.

Tips for Wearing Masks are shared with us via stop-motion videos produced by students in Mr. Ho’s project-based learning class.

Family Webinars and the Blue Wave Wellness News for students are new efforts from our Student and Family Services team to engage our community and focus on the health and well-being of all of our members.

We have students to celebrate and congratulate: Olivia Foli on her Eagle Scout Project, and Patrick Brown being named a National Merit Commended Student.

The Hidden Library Blog created by Mrs. Koppitch continues to be published this year and reviews picture books, graphic novels, and young adult literature, and accepts and shares personal reviews of books by students Kindergarten – 12th grade, as well as faculty and staff. The October edition is hot off the press!

The P.K. Yonge PTO is also gearing up to reconnect with families as they invite the community to define new creative ways to engage and support our school community. Stay tuned for more from the PKY PTO and don’t forget to join the P.K. Yonge Parent Teacher Organization Facebook Group!

Don’t forget that school meals are provided free to ALL students on and off campus until December 31, 2020. For off-campus families, curbside pick up times are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30am-1pm. Questions? Contact cafeteria@pky.ufl.edu.

We appreciate you, Blue Wave community, and hope you enjoy some lovely weather this weekend!
