Happy Friday! 02.26.2021

February 26, 2021

Happy Friday P.K. Yonge Families! We’re looking forward to the weekend, and we hope you are too! There are always many things going on around campus. Below, we celebrate a few of them.

Our Black Student Union created a presentation for Black History Month for our school community to view online. The title of their presentation is “I am Black History” and has been shared on the P.K. Yonge YouTube channel. (Elementary | Secondary)

Jump Rope for Heart has been a big success in our elementary school and our students have raised over $10,000! Congratulations to Coach Melissa De Leon-Mann and the elementary students!

Our student and family services team shared information for our high schools students this week in their Family Webinar: Looking Forward to the 2021-2022 School Year: High School Scheduling, Course Guide, and Programming. You can find the links to upcoming webinars and recorded webinars on the Family Webinars page linked to the Student and Family Services page on the web.

Congratulations are in order for a number of faculty who have had articles published recently.  Jon Mundorf, Javier Del Riego, former faculty member Cody Miller, and collaborators Christian Hines, and Mario Worlds published “When the Curriculum Needs Rescuing: Superhero Graphic Novels as Disruptive Curricular Forces” in the Ohio Journal of English Language Arts. Jon Mundorf, John Bourn, and Taylor Bainter partnered with College of Education colleagues Dr. Angela Kohnen  and Gillian Mertens published Wisdom begins in wonder: Implementing identity-based information literacy instruction across the content areas in the Middle School Journal.

Finally, for this week we celebrate our school nurse, Eva Gonzalez. Please join us in congratulating Eva on being nominated as P.K. Yonge’s District-Related Employee of the Year! Our school community is so grateful for her service, commitment, and care and we are cheering her on as we submit her nomination to the Florida Department of Education.
