Exceptional Student Education Services

March 24, 2020

We have worked diligently to develop plans to meet student needs as we make the shift to remote instruction due to the national response to COVID-19. Our efforts to provide instructional continuity for all students include strategic planning for students receiving exceptional education services. Although these services may look different under these extreme circumstances, our commitment to inclusion and student success remains the same.

We have provided all students at P.K. Yonge with Chromebooks and have solicited input from all families regarding technology needs via the Technology Access survey. Teachers have developed remote instruction plans with guidelines, support, and expectations that can be found on our Virtually P.K. page. In addition, we have considered all aspects of the plans developed for students receiving exceptional education services including IEP/504/EP(Gifted) services.

All students receiving special education services at P.K. Yonge have a personal plan manager who partners with teachers, students, and families to develop each student’s individualized plan. As part of our shift to remote instruction, accommodations for all students were revisited by Dr. Pennypacker Hill (Director of Student and Family Services), plan managers, teachers, and counselors prior to leaving school for Spring Break.

Teachers and counselors will make necessary adjustments in order to meet student needs in the virtual environment, and plan managers will continue to monitor student progress to determine what, if any, additional support is needed. Students receiving mental health support, occupational therapy, and/or speech and language services will receive direct communication from P.K. Yonge providers to schedule services. All required evaluations and IEP/504/EP meetings will be held virtually to the greatest extent practicable.

We are eager to work together in good faith and partnership with families to design and implement an effective program for all students. We look forward to seeing all of you at Virtually P.K. on Monday, March 30.

Should you or your student need additional support, our team is ready to assist when we return to school on March 30. Contact information can be found here: Exceptional Student Education
