Early Dismissal Today, 8.25

August 25, 2021

Many thanks to all families for such a swift response to our early dismissal.

Administration began receiving reports of an unpleasant odor all over campus and began investigations at 8:40 a.m.

A power outage occurred in the secondary building at 8:50 a.m. with 30 minutes of battery backup for internet across campus. Reports were received that the power outage extended beyond P.K.Yonge. Estimated timelines for power restoration were unavailable.

While investigations into the power outage and odor were taking place, concerns were being raised about ventilation, air-conditioning, the ability to continue classes, and remaining indoors without air circulation.

As the source of the odor on campus was unknown and the entire campus was affected indoors and out, the decision to dismiss all students was made at 9:20 a.m.

At 9:30 a.m. we received notification that the source of the odor was a routine and harmless chemical disposal at the University of Florida campus.

Power was restored at approximately 9:40 a.m. and campus has been cleared for us to return to school tomorrow, Thursday, August 25.

Students are still being dismissed and should be picked up from their regular campus locations. For students on campus after 9:45 a.m. arrangements have been made for supervision until a family member can pick them up.
