COVID-19 | Maintaining Community Health

August 24, 2021

As the third week of school is underway, we continue to observe and appreciate our Blue Wave community doing what they can to protect the health of one another by wearing masks when gathered with others, both indoors and outdoors. As the COVID-19 infection rate remains at record high levels in our community, we expect our Blue Wave students, faculty, and staff to wear a mask, maintain distance when possible, not to come to school while sick or after a COVID-19 exposure, and wash hands often.

As a public school and part of the University of Florida, a state university, P.K. Yonge must follow the guidance provided by the Florida Board of Governors and the Florida Department of Education. Therefore, the recent city, school board, and county mask mandates do not apply to the University and P.K. Yonge.

Our best tools to reduce the incidence of infection within our Blue Wave community are vaccination for adults and children over the age of 12, masking while indoors, not coming to school while sick or after a COVID-19 exposure, and testing to identify COVID positive members of the community.

Though we do not require members of the Blue Wave community to be vaccinated or wear masks, in light of the current situation in our community, we ask all families to make their decisions guided by a commitment to supporting the health and well-being of all members of the Blue Wave community, many of whom are unable to be vaccinated.
