COVID-19 Campus Protocol Update

January 6, 2022

When a positive case of COVID-19 is identified in the P.K. Yonge student community, the case or family of the case notifies the P.K. Yonge nurse (nurse@pky.ufl.edu).

Positive cases isolate (stay at home) and wait for guidance from the clinic.

P.K. Yonge Clinic Staff:
1. Notify the Department of Health COVID Operations at UF (DOH at UF) & Florida Department of Health – Alachua (DOH-Alachua) of positive COVID-19 cases.
2. Carry out contact tracing in classrooms and extracurricular activities
3. Communicate with the family of the case and close contacts regarding isolation, testing, quarantining, and return to school dates.

DOH at UF:
Communicates with positive cases and advises about contact tracing in the community

Quarantining Options for Asymptomatic Close Contacts

Families may choose any one of the quarantine options, provided if the student does NOT exhibit symptoms of COVID-19. Information regarding quarantine options will be provided in communications from the clinic when a student is identified as a close contact to a positive case. Free COVID-19 tests may include rapid tests OR PCR tests as supplies permit.

— Option 1:
Student remains in school if symptom-free and a free (not required) COVID-19 test, is administered by the school nurse on day 5.

— Option 2:
Student continues to come to school.
A negative test result is not required for the student to remain at school, but the student must be evaluated by the nurse to ensure that the student has no symptoms of COVID-19.

— Option 3:
Student quarantines off-campus and a (not required) COVID-19 test is administered by the school nurse on day 5.
A family may choose to wait for a negative test result on day 5 before the student returns to school.

— Option 4:
Student quarantines off-campus for seven (7) days and returns to school on day 8.
A negative test result is not required for the student to return to campus.

All close contacts are recommended to monitor symptoms for the full 10 days and to wear a mask.
