Good morning, Blue Wave. Today is Tuesday, January 14th. 

Special Event on Campus

In collaboration with the MLK Commission of Florida, P.K. Yonge will be sponsoring a special event in the Performing Arts Center on Saturday, January 18 at 7:00 PM.   Middle and high school students and families are invited to attend “Who’s in the Box–Unplugged,” a play written by local playwright Romona Jackson.  This play highlights the importance of gun-violence prevention. The event is free, and space is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Doors open at 6:30 and seating is limited.  The content of this play is intended for teens and may not be suitable for younger children.

HS Peer Tutors

Attention all High School Peer Tutors: We will have a meeting this Thursday, January 16th, during lunch in Ms. Roach’s room, Blue 312. See you then.

MS AI Competition

Hey PK Middle school, are you interested in learning how to apply Artificial Intelligence in your everyday lives? Do you like working with a team to solve problems? Join Mr. Boada and Mr. DiFranco on Tuesday or Thursday morning to learn about an exciting contest where you get to develop a plan to create a SmartHome Energy management system! The contest starts next month and is open to any and all middle school students that are able to meet before school to complete the contest activities. Please find Mr. Boada or Mr. DiFranco for more information.

BSU

Attention BSU members.  Our next meeting will be this Friday, January 17th.  We will be finalizing the content of the February program.  Come early for hot chocolate.  BSU Executive Board, we will meet today during lunch in Dr. Geiger’s office.

Softball

Middle school and high school softball tryouts will be TODAY from 4:30-5:30 at the softball field. Players should wear and bring proper clothing, equipment, and water.

Pre-Collegiate Club

Pre-Collegiate Club members:  Our next college visit is scheduled for TOMORROW, 1/15 on the E-Learning Day.  We will be visiting Santa Fe College Main Campus at 10 AM.  We will depart from P.K. Yonge at 9:00 AM. Please see Ayrin King or Dr. Geiger, OR stop by the front office for a permission slip. Please answer the poll in GroupMe so we have an accurate count of who is planning to attend. 

NE Florida Construction Career Day

The Northeast Florida Construction Career Day is an annual event in Jacksonville, Florida. High School juniors and seniors are invited to attend this free event which showcases various careers in the engineering and construction industries, including engineers, environmental scientists, CADD drafters, project managers, tradesmen, administration, accounting, and marketing  This year, Dr. Geiger and Mrs. Henry have space to take 50 interested students on a charter bus to this event on Thursday, February 27th. We will be gone the entire school day; lunch will be provided.  To go on the trip you must do two things – return your signed permission slip and register with the QR code on the flyer located on the front office window.  Permission slips are available in the front office.  Only students who are in good academic standing may participate in this trip.  Space is limited. Don’t delay in getting your stuff turned in!
