April 9, 2019

Today is Tuesday, April 9th and it is a B Day.

Today and tomorrow there will be a research from the School of Psychology collecting survey information about students’ use of social media.  He will be around during lunch. If you’re willing to answer a few questions, he would be grateful.

Anybody who is interested in getting community services hours this summer with Camp Blue Wave, please come by room R259 or the after school pick up table and get an application this week.

AP and Honors 2D will be displaying their work at the Harn Museum of Art for the month of April! Please join us for the opening reception Thursday, April 12th at 6pm. See some great art and stay for Museum Night!

The football team will be holding tryouts for place kickers and punters, every Tuesday and Thursday in the month April. Soccer players are greatly encouraged to tryout. If you are interested, please come see Coach

McDonald or send him an email on Canvas. Kicking is a valuable skill set and a great way to be a part of the football team!

Congratulations to P.K. Yonge Odyssey of the Mind high school teams who competed at the State Competition in Orlando this past weekend.  Both teams represented P.K. extremely well. The team of Weller/Weller (Kacie Bailey, Zane Vesper, Patryk Weller, Katie Rocha, Katie Bates, Cierra Butin and Samantha White) placed second in their problem and Advanced to the World Competition in Lansing, Michigan in May.  In addition, their team earned the highest Honor in Odyssey of the Mind, the Ranatra Fusca for creativity and a message of acceptance and inclusion of all. The team of Poole/Moody (Abby Friedin, Julia Bush, Miranda Barnes, Douglas Poole and Jaxson Christie) placed fourth in their problem, only competing with five team members.  We are extremely proud of both teams and we wish the Weller team the best of luck at Worlds. Well done OMers.

Middle School National Junior Honor Society members please meet in Mrs. Beckett’s room this Friday, April 12 during lunch.  We will plan our last service project of the year.

The University of Florida Police Department is considering wrapping the vehicle used by our School Resource Office with a design that would designate the vehicle as our special SRO vehicle.  They are asking for proposals from student artists. These can be created by individuals or teams. Designs must be turned in by the end of April. Mr. Moody and Mrs. Johnson have been provided with examples of this type of car wrap.  There is also a flier in the front office window with examples to get your creativity flowing. If you have any questions, please see Officer Savona.

All of Mrs. Snyder’s classes and Mr. Cunningham’s 3rd and 6th period classes will be relocated to accommodate testing tomorrow and Thursday.  Students, please look for the posted locations on the classroom doors and give yourselves a little extra time if you have these two teachers on your course schedule. For tomorrow:

Mrs. Snyder’s First Period – Dr. Allison’s Room M347
Mrs. Snyder’s Second Period – Dr. Breil’s Room N382
Mr. Cunningham’s First and Second Periods will meet in the Cafeteria
Mr. Cunningham’s Third Period – Mr. Fabulich’s Room Z1152
