Good morning, Blue Wave.

Today is Tuesday, October 3rd and it is an A Day!

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

The PSAT will be given Wednesday, October 11th from 7:45am-12:30pm at the Wyndham Garden Gainesville.  PKY bus transportation will be provided to and from PKY.  All 10th graders will take the exam at no cost and do not need to sign up.  It is strongly recommended that all college bound 11th grade students take the PSAT. Cost for the PSAT is $28 and waivers are available for students with financial need.  Please see your grade level counselor for those waivers.

If you are interested in taking the PSAT please sign up and pay in the PKY Business Office. Registration closes Thursday, October 5th at 3:00pm.

Hispanic Honor Society, Habitat for Humanity, the Global Awareness Club, and Key Club will be collecting items to help the victims of Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Families impacted by the hurricanes and earthquakes are in need of batteries, battery operated cellphone chargers, battery operated fans, toiletry items, infant care items, first aid kits, clothes, shoes, 40-gallon trash bags, and mosquito repellent. Please deliver your donations to the classrooms of Ms. Santiago, Ms. Rodriguez, or Ms. Andrews, or to our table in front of the cafeteria at lunch. 

Please remember that every student eats free until October 20th Please do not try and get two meals; the system will only allow you ONE meal per meal session

There will be a Marine Science Club meeting in Ms. Andrews’ room today during high school lunch.  The club will be holding elections and beginning their first fundraiser.  All Marine Science students are welcome.

Thespian Club Members: All Yankee Candle orders are due to Ms. Snyder tomorrow.  Please make sure all forms and payments are complete when you hand them in.

If you are a member of the Hispanic Heritage Celebration Planning Committee, please plan to report to Ms. Cheveallier’s room tomorrow directly after school.

Attention all Middle School Acts of Random Kindness Club Members:

Please stop into Mrs. Ireland’s office today during Power Hour to vote for the final version of our logo.  Mrs. Ireland’s office is located in the front office. Thank you!

For those student who are interested in the study abroad program through the Rotary Youth Exchange, there is a mandatory meeting for students and parents tonight at 6 PM at the Sante Fe College Charles Blount Center in Classroom #1.  This is a travel experience worth over $24,000 which includes room, board, tuition, and a monthly stipend for a high school year abroad.  We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity.

Reminder that the food truck will be parked by the gymnasium today.  Additionally, a special happy birthday to Vashtye in the cafeteria!

All members of the Hispanic Honor Society. The last day to decorate the doors is this Thursday at 3:00 pm. The 2 winner teams will be announce on Monday October 9.

All students participating in the Poetry Out Loud:  We have a mandatory meeting this Thursday during Power Hour at Mrs. Santiago’s classroom. Come prepared with your three poems.

Students auditioning for the dance section of the Spanish state competition need to show up this Wednesday after school at Mrs. Santiago’s classroom or they will not be able to compete.

School Counseling:

Students! The ASVAB will be administered again this Thursday after school. If you would like to sign up, please let Ms. Bryen know and/or sign up with Sergeant Nilson during high school lunch this week.

Juniors and Seniors! Look for an email coming your way regarding the free SAT in November for Alachua County students. If your parent/guardian does not receive this email and you would like to take advantage of the opportunity, please come see Ms. Bryen before October 25th.

Seniors! Friday, October 9th P.K. Yonge will be holding Financial Aid Night at 6:00 PM in the library. We will be joined by Mrs. Donna Kolb, the Associate Director of the Office for Student Financial Affairs at the University of Florida. She will discuss important information regarding Bright Futures and Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA.
