Academics

The 2017 April Scholarship Letter is now available on the school website and the School Counseling Twitter! It will be on the Student Government Twitter as well.

High School Students –
SAT prep classes will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays through May 4 in Room J-307 from 3 – 4:30.
Join us and be prepared for your SAT exam on May 6!

Attention students in grades 8 – 11,
Here is a very good opportunity to earn community service hours;  Winning Reading Boost summer camp will run from June 7th through July 13th, 8 am til 1pm, Monday through Thursday at Lake Forest Elementary School.  Please consider volunteering one or more hours per week.  Contact Dr. Lisa Langley at langleylisa@coe.ufl.edu or Dr. Vivian Haynes at vivianhaynes11@yahoo.com to learn more.

Athletics

The middle school cheerleading team is selling snow cones today after school for $1 in front of the cafeteria. Miscellaneous Endeavors will match the total amount of money raised and donate it to James Handley’s family.  Come on out this afternoon and support a worthy cause.

Aspiring to be a college student-athlete one day? From how to save your money, to learning different majors, come out to see, hear and learn what it takes to earn a scholarship and succeed at P.K. Yonge’s Student-Athlete Speaker Series. On Saturday, April 29 from 12:30 to 3:15 pm, three speakers will be offering wisdom on various topics involving the world of student-athletics.
Those three are: Corneilus Ingram, a 2006 & 2008 Football National Champion at the University of Florida, Andrica Alexander, an FIU Finance alumni and current tax Law grad student at the University of Florida, and Alex Peterman, a Staff Writer for RIVALS.com and former Bleacher Report NFL Analyst.
The event will kick-off at the P.K. Library. Free food and prizes will be given out. Come and see what’s in store.

Any current 8th – 11th grader that is interested in playing spring football, see Coach Johnson during lunch to sign up.  You must have a 2.0 or higher cumulative grade point average.

Good Luck to our Varsity Baseball Team vs. St. Francis today at 4:30 pm for Senior Night!!

Clubs

To students and staff:  The special full-color 132 page 10th Anniversary issue of Creeks and Currents is now on sale for $5 each from Mrs. Jacobbe in elementary, Ms. Sanchez in the front office, Ms. Johnson in art, and your English and Spanish teachers.  Get yours while supplies last.

National Junior Honor Society will meet next Tuesday during lunch in Dr. Cordero’s room.  Hope to see all members then!

Today’s Health Smart Reminder: Water leads to increased energy levels. The most common cause of daytime fatigue is actually mild dehydration.  Keep your water bottle handy today!

This month, Key Club, in collaboration with UF’s Hispanic Latino Affairs, is hosting a shoe and sock drive for migrant farm workers in honor of the Cesar Chavez Memorial Day of Service. We are collecting new socks and new or gently used shoes. There will be a donation box in Mrs. Andrews’ room and in front of the cafeteria every day during high school lunch.
