August 19, 2021

Good morning! Today is Thursday, August 19th.

Any high school students who need volunteer hours can sign-up to work football games in the concession stand with Coach Barrett at lunch.

Do you like acting or technical theatre? Do you want to meet a great group of high schoolers?  Are you interested in Thespian Club?  Come to the PKY Thespian Club interest meeting, Thursday August 19 at 2:35 in the Theatre room!

High School! The fall play this year is A CHRISTMAS CAROL.  Auditions are August 24th in the PAC.  Audition materials are on Canvas and on the school website Thespian page.  This is a great play with tons of roles of every size and shape! Get involved and have fun. We are live and back on stage!

Attention seniors – if you’d like to paint your parking spot this year, you have one more chance to do it.  Saturday, August 21st from 8-noon, the campus will be open for seniors who have purchased their parking decals to paint their chosen spaces. You must first buy your decal AND pay $10 to paint.  This can be done in the business office. Your painting design must be approved by Mrs. Koppitch prior to painting. You can send them to her at mkoppitch@pky.ufl.edu by Thursday, August 19th.  More information can be found on the Senior corner page on the PK Yonge website, or in your Senior Class Canvas course.

Boys JV and Varsity Soccer will kick off their season with daily practice from 6 to 8pm starting on October 18. They will have run tryouts on October 18 and 19. Please stay tuned to our social media feed @pkyboyssoccer

Attention Seniors – senior lunch is back! Every Friday, seniors may leave class 5 minutes early to go to lunch

Interested in helping the environment?  The first meeting of the high school Environmental Conservation Organization (ECO) will take place today during lunch.  We will initially meet in Ms. Andrews’ room (room 110, blue wing, in the new building), then move outside together to eat lunch and plan for the semester.  We hope you will join us!

We invite you to join the high school chapter of Blue Wave GSA in our first meeting of the year on Friday during lunch.  We will initially meet in Ms. Andrews’ room (room 110, blue wing, in the new building), then move outside together to eat lunch and plan for the semester.  Hope to see you there!

Do you love music and performing? Are you interested in community service and making a difference? Join Tri-M Music Honor Society, the national music honor society for students. To be eligible, you need to maintain at least a B average in your classes, be enrolled in a music ensemble, and be interested in using your musical skills to serve your community. Tri-M’s interest session will be on Monday, August 23 during lunch in the PAC Choir room. See you there!

Attention middle school students. When entering the building after lunch, do not run and please keep your voices down. The high school students are still in class.

Friday night at 7:00 PM the Blue Wave will kick off its 2021 Football Season.  Wear your Blue Wave gear tomorrow to show your school spirit.  And come out on Friday night to cheer on the team! Go Blue Wave!

Our state legislature just passed a new law requiring K-12 public school students to engage in a daily moment of silence.  This is your moment to reflect on anything you wish.  We recommend that you discuss this with your family to decide how the time should be best spent.  Most importantly, no student can interfere with another student’s participation.  And the teacher will not direct you as to what you should spend the time thinking about.  We will take our one-minute of silence just before we do the Pledge of Allegiance during the morning announcements.  Please see the  LINK under the Announcements tab on the website for full details.  Your family should have received an email about this new requirement on Tuesday evening.  We will begin engaging in this moment of silence on Friday.

And now…

Please stand for the pledge:

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Have a great day, Blue Wave!
