January 13, 2022

Good morning! Today is Thursday, January 13th.

Thespians! We will have a brief meeting during lunch today. This meeting will focus on an upcoming trip to the Hippodrome theater to see a show!

“Any Middle or High School girls interested in playing softball this spring we will have tryouts on Monday, January 24th from 3:30-5. You must have an athletic physical on file with Coach Barrett before the tryout date. Please email Coach Ryan at rstewart@pky.ufl.edu with any questions or concerns.”

Last year, the Alachua County Commission voted to rename the Alachua County Criminal Courthouse in honor of the late Judge Stephan P. Mickle, Sr.

Judge Mickle was a man of many firsts: First African American to obtain an undergraduate degree from the University of Florida; first African American to practice law in Alachua County; first African American County Court Judge in Alachua County and among many other achievements, all of his children attended PK Yonge with two of them being lifers. It is a great honor to announce that our band will play at the renaming ceremony tomorrow and two of our very own students were selected as winners in the Judge Stephan P. Mickle Essay and Poetry Contest. Please congratulate Eleanor Montgomery and Aurora Martins Rocha

Mrs. Koppitch will be available in the library 1st-3rd periods on Monday/Wednesday/Friday and 3rd period on Tuesdays/Thursdays. Classes may sign up to come check out books and do research.  For those students who would like to check out books at other times, please let Mrs. Koppitch know through the P.K. Library tab in canvas and she’ll set up something with you.

JV and Varsity Baseball Tryouts will be held NEXT MONDAY, January 17th at 1 PM.  You must have a sports physical on file with Coach Barrett in order to try out.  Please see Coach Brunson during lunch if you have any questions.

Two Special Announcements from Coach Mac- Students, thank you again for doing the right thing and also holding your classmates accountable to keeping the cafeteria clean. I personally appreciate it; you have no idea.

Secondly, I realize how congested the hallways are during class changes in the main building, making it difficult to get to class on time. So please be aware of your impact on foot traffic. If you stop in the hall to talk, it blocks the walk way for everyone. If you are at the front, please keep moving. If you are at the doorway, please use all available doors to enter or exit the area. I know the class change is an opportunity for you all to see a friend and reset your focus before getting to the next class but please try to do that out of the way of traffic. Thank you, let’s have a great day today.

Please pause for a moment of silence: Hang up and start again for the pledge

Please stand for the pledge:

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Have a wonderful day Blue Wave!
