Today is Friday, August 16th, and it is a B Day.  You will attend periods 4, 5 & 6.

Successful P. K. Yonge students are Responsible, Respectful, Resilient, and Ready.  Practice the 4Rs today and every day!

Students who plan to park on campus, need to purchase a parking decal from the business office during the first two weeks of school. The deadline to purchase a decal is a week from today.

Speaking of driving…
If you are interested in taking Driver’s Education,  Registration for night school driver education is now open. Please call Scott Pritchett at 955-6959  to sign up. Classes begin on 8/22. All pertinent information can be found on the School Board of Alachua County website.

The P. K. Yonge driver education class is full at this time. Coach Johnson will add names to the waiting list and if students drop the class, he will add new students.

This year our campus closes at 4 PM.  Families have been made aware of this through multiple emails and Skyward communications. This week we have patiently reminded students about the new requirements.  All students should have made arrangements by next week. Please make sure you are where you need to be as a responsible P. K. student.

Roaring Riptide high-school robotics team, will be holding their first interest meeting/club meeting on Tuesday, August 20th from 4:00-5:30 p.m.  If you are interested in learning more about engineering, business, marketing, technology, media, acting, or 3-D printing and modeling, please join us.  No experience is required! The meeting will be held in Building M Room 344 – Ms. Brewster’s Room.

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, also called the “Ship” club will hold interest meetings during high-school lunch and after school on Wednesday, August 21st.  If you are interested in joining this amazing student organization focused on STEM, please plan to attend one of these meetings.  The meetings will be held in Building M Room 344 – Ms. Brewster’s Room.

If you are participating in the movie taping of A Portrait of a Young Man at PK Yonge this weekend, please see Dr. Harris to turn in your performance Agreement. Students may participate for half days, but please see Dr. Harris to give your specific availability. Only male students will be needed on Saturday. Male and Female students will be needed on Sunday.  For more information, please see Dr. Harris.

All current UNICEF members and interested new students that would like to join UNICEF,  please come to our meeting this Friday, August 16 for our 1st meeting at Mrs. Santiago’s classroom Z-1427.

Auditions for the fall play, GAME OF TIARAS, will be Thursday August 22!Scripts, audition materials, and the audition sign-up sheet are available in the Theatre room in the PAC.

Are you interested in being in a Rock Band?  Do you play guitar, or drums? Want to learn more?  Come talk to Mrs. Burg about joining our Instrumental Ensemble class, lovingly known as ROCK BAND.  It takes place during 4th period and you must be a high school student. We have a couple spots still open.  See Mrs. Burg in the Band room if you are interested!

Did you know that we have an Orchestra Class at PK this year?  No kidding! It’s open to middle school AND high school students.   If you have some experience on a stringed instrument, we would love to have you.  If you don’t have any experience–you are in luck; Mrs. Burg will teach you! She’ll even help you obtain an instrument, and she’ll teach you everything that you need to know.  The class is scheduled for 1st period. Come see Mrs. Burg in the band room if you would like to join us.

One more… If you are a middle school student and interested in joining the band, we have a spot for you, too.  No experience required! If you already play something, that’s great; we would love to have you too. Come see Mrs. Burg in the band room for more details, or to sign up!  Don’t miss out on being a part of the most awesome class at PK!

Speech and debate will be holding an interest meeting Monday, August 19 at 2:45pm. The meeting will be held in Ms. Andrews’ room in the 2/3 learning community. Come hear about the different events and grab a sweet treat! No experience necessary; open to both middle and high school students! See you there!

ATTENTION TEACHERS:  This morning’s fire drill has been canceled.  Please take a moment to review fire drill procedures with your 4th period classes.
