February 26, 2021

Good morning! Today is Friday, February 26th

High fives and fist bumps to the Varsity Baseball Team for their 10-1 win over Interlachen last night.  And  congratulations to Coach Brunson for his 50th win as Head Coach of Blue Wave Baseball! Come out tonight for Baseball Senior Night — JV will play at 4 PM and Varsity will play at 7 PM. Go Blue Wave!

We are looking forward to the Black Student Union’s Black History Program today.  They were diligent in pre-recording their program so that we can all safely watch together during third period.   Teachers, the link to the video should be hitting your inbox soon.  Big thanks to Mr. Lee and Ms. Henderson for their technical assistance.

Teachers, please make sure you review information from Mr. Toporek about the fire drill scheduled for later today.  We will walk down the service road behind the gym, turn left and continue down the service road that runs south of the baseball field before entering the double gates near the batting cage and lining up across the hill on the baseball field.  Please do NOT walk across the field.

Mr. Moody’s High School Art Club is now meeting in person Tuesday afternoons until 3:30 starting March 2nd! Come enjoy some good discussion and art-making fun!

Seniors: Santa Fe is offering their annual Summer Enrichment Experience from 6/21-7/30. The program is designed to help students acclimate to college and give an opportunity to earn college credit. Students who complete the program may qualify for scholarships, as well.  If you are interested in this program, see Mr. Chambliss or Mrs. Koppitch for more information.

Seniors – please, please, please check in on the Senior Canvas Course announcements.  There is crucial information there on senior field pictures, senior parking, senior signatures for the yearbook, and is being updated constantly. You can also find how to join the Remind app for text reminders on these events.

Just a reminder that the cell phone policy has not changed: Phones should not be out during class unless your teacher specifically asks you to take out your phones for a task.  Phones should be put away and silenced during class time.  You are free to use your phones during breaks between classes and during lunch.

Today we will answer a couple more  Because You Asked questions… Remember,   If you have a new question, you can turn it in to Mrs. V in the front office or email Dr. Geiger.

Because you asked:

How big is the new building? It is approximately 76,000 square feet.
Do we have to also stay in school until June 16 or are the extra minutes our make-up for COVID? Because we started school earlier than Alachua County and added some extra minutes to our days, we have not had to extend our school year. Our last day of school will be on May 27th.

Please stand for the pledge: (READ THIS SLOWLY…)

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Have a great day and a wonderful weekend,  Blue Wave.
