COVID-19 Campus Protocol Updates – Positive Cases & Close Contacts

February 8, 2022

Greetings P.K. Yonge Families,

We have some updates to share regarding campus protocols for positive cases of COVID-19 and for close contacts.

Updated Campus Protocols for Positive Cases

Students who receive positive COVID-19 test results should notify the nurse (nurse@pky.ufl.edu) and isolate off campus. There are three options to return to school for students who receive positive COVID-19 test results.

— Positive Case Option 1 —
Self-isolate at home for a minimum of 10 days from the onset of symptoms. If asymptomatic, self-isolate for a minimum of 10 days from the date the positive test was performed.

— Positive Case Option 2 —
Obtain a negative COVID-19 test from a certified lab after symptoms resolve or improve. Contact the school nurse (nurse@pky.ufl.edu) for more information on possible testing options.

— Positive Case Option 3 —
Provide a medical provider’s note to the nurse with permission to return to school.

More details regarding protocols for positive cases and return dates will be supplied by the nurse.

Updated Campus Protocols for Close Contacts

Families of students identified as close contacts to a positive case of COVID-19 on campus are notified by email and a phone call and may choose from one of two options (see below). Close contacts who show symptoms should notify the nurse (nurse@pky.ufl.edu) and isolate off campus.

For close contacts who do not show symptoms of COVID-19, families may choose either one of the close contact options by responding to the email notification. Families of close contacts will not be contacted individually by the Clinic. If families of close contacts have questions regarding the options, please email nurse@pky.ufl.edu.

— Close Contact Option 1 —
Student remains in school if symptom-free. While a negative test result is not required, CDC guidelines recommend close contacts be tested on day 5 to assess for asymptomatic infections.

— Close Contact Option 2 —
Student quarantines off-campus for five (5) days and returns to school on day six (6). While a negative test result is not required for the student to return to campus, CDC guidelines recommend close contacts be tested on day 5 to assess for asymptomatic infections.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Free COVID-19 tests are not available in the P.K. Yonge Clinic.
Campus COVID-19 protocols will be updated as more information becomes available.
