24-25 Dates and Bell Schedule
February 7, 2024P.K. Yonge is excited to release the 2024-2025 Important Dates, Calendar, and Bell Schedule. The first day of school for students will be Monday, August 12, 2024. These items have been reviewed for stakeholder input by the Faculty Policy Council, Student Government policy committee, and the School Advisory Council.
For 6th-7th grade, we are implementing a later start time (9:00 a.m.) and later release time (3:45 p.m.).
For 8th-12th grade, we are implementing a later start time (9:10 a.m.) and later release time (3:40 p.m.).

Why are we implementing a change to the bell schedule?
- Research shows that adolescents perform better when they receive more sleep and have a later start time.
- All middle/high schools will have to implement a later start time by 2026, in accordance with state law.
- Construction for the new gymnasium will begin next school year and will impact the traffic patterns for school drop-off and pick-up.
What about the 2025-2026 balanced calendar?
A balanced or “year-round” calendar allows for beginning a school year earlier and more evenly distributing instruction throughout the year, thus optimizing learning and student outcomes.
The soonest P.K. Yonge would consider implementing a balanced calendar would be for the 2025-2026 school year. There will be many scheduled opportunities for stakeholder input prior to implementation.
