Announcements – Thursday, August 10

August 10, 2023

Welcome back Blue Wave! Today is the first day of school. Let’s make 2023-2024 a great school year!

From Dr. Geiger

We are excited to embark on the 2023-2024 school year!  It is shaping up to be a great one.  Much planning has been underway this summer to ensure that everyone has an enjoyable and academically productive school year.

Students and teachers, we are asking that you listen carefully to the announcements each morning so that you do not miss important information from your student government, coaches, counselors, and club sponsors.  Please refrain from talking during the announcements, and please make sure you are following protocols related to the moment of silence and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Thursday and Friday Release Time

Remember, today we are following the Wednesday schedule, and we will dismiss at 1:45.  If you are not planning to leave or be picked up immediately after school, you should report to the outdoor cafeteria area for afternoon supervision unless you are a middle school student who will be participating in the middle school Blue Wave Afterschool Program.

MS/HS After School Options Beginning Monday

Beginning Monday, there will be an additional afterschool option for middle and high school students.  Daily, from 3:00 PM to 4 PM, we will be providing an Academic Study Hall.  This will be held on the first floor of the secondary building.  There will be teachers, tutors, and a behavior coach present to ensure that students are engaged in academic tasks and receiving the help they need.

To summarize, beginning Monday, secondary students can do one of four things at the end of the school day:

  1. Get picked up or drive yourself off campus (if you are student driver)
  2. Report to the Middle School Blue Wave Afterschool Program (if you are a middle school student who enrolled in the program)
  3. Be engaged in an extracurricular activity with a coach or club sponsor, OR
  4. Participate in the Academic Study Hall

Please discuss these options with your family to decide what your afternoon will look like.  We want to make sure that all our students are safe, supervised, and maximizing their learning opportunities.

Class Starts at 8:00am

Remember class starts at 8:00 am. The first bell rings at 7:55 am and is your signal to get to class. You should be in your classroom ready to learn by the time the second bell rings. You will be marked tardy if you aren’t in class by 8:00 am.

MS Lunch Reminders

We are establishing a new procedure to make sure that everyone is safely returning to the second floor after middle school lunch.

  • If you are a 6th grader, you will line up at the mosaic doors at the end of lunch and will be escorted up the stairs that are closest to the second floor orange wing.
  • If you are a 7th or 8th grader, after lunch you will line up at the doors closest to the sculpture garden and the main office and will be escorted up the large staircase near the library circulation desk.
  • 8th graders, this will only apply to you on the days that follow the Wednesday schedule.

Your teachers or one of the lunch supervisors will be able to answer questions regarding these new procedures.

MS Volleyball

Middle School Volleyball tryouts are today from 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm. If you are new to P.K. Yonge and missed the JV or Varsity tryouts, please contact Coach V.

Sports Physicals & Parental Consents

Athletes should complete Sports Physicals & Parental Consent forms each year before participating in any sports. Forms can be dropped off at the front office or to your coaches.

Please pause for a moment of silence:

Please stand for the pledge:

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Have a wonderful day Blue Wave!
