First Week of School Info

Greetings PKY Families,

Welcome back to the 23-24 school year. We are excited to see everyone for the first day of school on Thursday, August 10.  Please review bell schedules for this year. Minor adjustments have been made to the bell schedule since they were last sent out. 

School starts at 8:00 a.m. Students should be in their classrooms and ready to learn at that time. Arriving to a class after 8:00 a.m. will be a tardy. Students can be dropped off for morning supervision starting at 7:30 a.m.

For Thursday, August 10 and Friday, August 11, PK will be following a typical Wednesday schedule. Please make after school arrangements for your student based on the times below.

1. Elementary will be released at 12:45.
2. Secondary will be released at 1:45. 
3. Kindergarten will follow their staggered start schedule that has been communicated to K families.

 Student safety and security is our top priority. Beginning Monday, August 14, 2023, all gates to campus will not open until 7:30 a.m. including the 11th Street gate, 16th Street gate, and 6th Street gate. As student supervision does not begin until 7:30 a.m., gates will remain closed until that time.

 Elementary students will be dropped off and picked up at the top circle. Secondary students will be dropped off and picked up at the gym or the 6th Street entrance. Read more about traffic procedures and drop-off and pick-up.

Elementary Afternoon Supervision

Older siblings who are escorting their younger siblings off campus (by foot, car, bicycle, or other) may sign out their sibling(s) from the student’s teacher. Under no other circumstances will older siblings be allowed to sign out younger siblings.

On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, students should be at one of these three things:

• picked up at 2:30 p.m. and off campus by 2:50
• attending tutoring or a club meeting
• attending Blue Wave After School

On Wednesdays, students should be at one of these three things:

• picked up at 12:45 and off campus by 1:05
• attending tutoring or a club meeting
• attending Blue Wave After School

6th-12th Grade Afternoon Supervision

At 2:35 pm (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday) or 1:45 (Wednesday), students should be:

• picked up or leaving campus from the 6th Street or 16th Ave. The top circle is reserved for elementary pickup. 
• registered and attending Blue Wave After School (6th-8th grade)
• attending an afterschool help session with a teacher
• participating in an extracurricular activity including sports practice, club meeting, or rehearsal
• attending Academic Study Hall, Monday-Friday 3:00-4:00 pm (beginning 8/14)

At 3:00 pm (M/T/W/Th/F), students should be:

• off campus
• at Blue Wave After School (6th-8th grade)
• at an extracurricular including sports practice, club meeting, or rehearsal
• at Academic Study Hall, Monday-Friday 3:00-4:00 pm (beginning 8/14)

At 4:00 pm, campus is closed and secondary students who are not at Blue Wave After School or an approved extracurricular activity will be escorted outside the 6th Street gate to wait in the car pick-up area.
