Code and Policies
The Code and Policies apply to every student who is under the authority and care of the P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School at the University of Florida. The Code and Policies are in effect on school property, at school-sponsored events, and in school vehicles. Students may also be subject to discipline if their misconduct is directed at fellow students, school employees, or the property of such outside of school hours, and off school property and/or if their off-campus behavior negatively impacts the school learning environment.
The goals of our Discipline/Behavior Systems are designed to accomplish the following:
- Maximize learning opportunities for college and career readiness
- Allow for effective teaching and learning by minimizing disruption to the learning environment
- Provide an environment in which all students, teachers, and staff feel safe – physically, emotionally, and psychologically
- Promote responsible citizenship and community engagement
- Support social-emotional and academic development
- Form and sustain positive relationships
- Provide fair and consistent responses to student misbehavior
- Engage in collaborative problem solving
When problems arise, we will attempt to solve them collaboratively, fairly, and consistently.
Students will be held responsible for their actions and will be expected to acknowledge their mistakes and seek to repair harm. After a student has made a poor choice, we will collaborate to repair any relationships and discourage recurrence.
In grades PreK-5, P.K. Yonge follows “Are You Anchored?” which means that students ask themselves:
- Are you taking care of Yourself?
- Are you taking care of Each other?
- Are you taking care of the School?
In grades 6-12, P.K. Yonge follows the “FOUR Rs” which means that students are:
- Responsible
- Respectful
- Resilient
- Ready
