Through our Engineering Pathway programs, students develop essential skills—such as problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication—that are valuable both in school and beyond. As students progress from elementary to high school, they are encouraged to explore various engineering concepts and career possibilities.

Courses must be taken in order.

2026-2027 Engineering Courses

This course exposes students to the engineering design process, research and analysis, teamwork, communication, collaboration, engineering standards, and technical documentation best practices. Students will employ engineering and scientific concepts in the solution of engineering design problems. In addition, they will learn to use 3D solid modeling design software to develop solutions to real-world problems.

Prerequisites: Recommended “C” or better in Algebra I or equivalent. *Special consideration given for students who have successfully completed the 8th Grade Project Lead the Way Engineering Semester Course (grade of C or better).

This course helps students understand the field of engineering/engineering technology and prepares them for postsecondary engineering programs by developing a more in-depth mastery of the required knowledge and skills in mathematics, science, software, design, and technology. Through problem-based learning, students study engineering topics, including mechanisms, energy sources, energy applications, machine control, fluid power, statics, material properties, material testing, statistics, and kinematics. Exploring various technology systems and manufacturing processes help students learn how engineers and technicians use math, science and technology in an engineering problem solving process.

This course provides an overview of the fields of Civil Engineering and Architecture, while emphasizing the interrelationship and dependence of both fields on each other. Students use industry software to develop and communicate solutions to real-world challenges, as well as build small models and complete other hands-on activities to build content knowledge. This course covers topics such as the Roles of Civil Engineers and Architects, Project Planning, Site Planning, Building Design, and Project Documentation and Presentation in Residential and Commercial Design.

This is a course in applied logic that encompasses the application of electronic circuits and devices. Students apply the design process to build combinational and sequential logic circuits, work in small teams, build communication skills, learn engineering standards for electronics, and technical documentation best practices related to circuit design.. Computer simulation software is used to design and test digital circuitry prior to the actual construction of circuits and devices.

Note: These two courses are linked corequisites and must be taken together.

This course serves as a capstone to the Project Lead the Way Engineering Program. Students work to research, design, engineer, prototype, test, and produce their own product. This would involve using ALL of the knowledge previously learned in PLTW coursework. Students will be expected to create a formal portfolio and deliver a final presentation defense about their project.
