What is CTE?

Career & Technical Education blends academic rigor with hands-on, career-focused experiences. Through engaging coursework, project-based learning, and industry-aligned standards, students gain:

  • Practical, job-ready skills
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
  • Collaboration and leadership experience
  • Exposure to high-demand career fields
  • Opportunities to earn industry certifications

Our programs are designed to reflect current workforce needs while maintaining the strong academic foundation P.K. Yonge is known for.

Getting Started

Students interested in Career & Technical Education should speak with their school counselor during course registration to explore available pathways and plan a program of study that aligns with their interests and goals.

At P.K. Yonge, CTE is more than coursework—it’s preparation for life beyond high school.

Career Pathways

CTE courses are organized into career pathways that allow students to explore interests and build depth over time. Pathways may include fields such as:

  • Business & Entrepreneurship
  • Health Sciences
  • Engineering & Technology
  • Digital Media & Communications
  • Environmental Sciences
  • Computer Sciences

Students can begin exploring pathways early in high school and continue advancing through specialized coursework and experiential learning opportunities.

Hands-On Learning

CTE students don’t just learn about careers—they experience them.

Opportunities may include:

  • Real-world projects and simulations
  • Guest speakers and industry mentors
  • Internship and work-based learning experiences
  • Career exploration events
  • Student leadership organizations

These experiences help students build confidence, professional skills, and a clearer vision for their future.

Industry Certifications

Many CTE programs offer students the opportunity to earn recognized industry certifications before graduation. These credentials can:

  • Strengthen college applications
  • Provide immediate workforce qualifications
  • Demonstrate mastery of technical skills
  • Open doors to internships and employment

Graduating with certifications sets students apart and gives them a tangible return on their high school experience.

College & Career Ready

CTE at P.K. Yonge supports multiple postsecondary pathways:

  • Four-year universities
  • State colleges and technical programs
  • Apprenticeships
  • Military service
  • Direct-to-workforce entry

Our goal is to ensure every student graduates with direction, experience, and confidence in their next steps.
