Fourth- and fifth-grade students are beginning to become self-aware and see themselves within the context of their environments. The 4/5 team understands the importance of students’ success and capitalizes on the enthusiasm, passion, and love for learning that is distinctive of this age. The fourth-grade year is structured to introduce low-risk ways to enhance independence and create a safe space for each student’s learning. Students are taught the importance of ownership in order to promote self-sufficiency. Students in fifth grade continue to develop critical skills such as time management, the ability to multitask, and a greater capacity for remembering details. These skills come into play in middle school and beyond, and they are important for growing learners to practice.
