With a growing focus on global awareness and cultural competence for today’s and tomorrow’s students, P.K. Yonge offers numerous ways for students to engage in internationally focused activities.
China | PKY-NJEIS Exchange
P.K. Yonge has been connected with the Nanjing Experimental International School (NJEIS) in China since 2012, sending our first delegation of students to NJEIS in the spring of 2013. Since that time over 100 students from our two schools have participated in the exchange program and deepened the connection between our two schools, and our two countries. Each time, students learn more about China, about themselves, and about their own place in a global context. Needs-based scholarships supported 6 travelers on our 2017 visit and are available for 2019. Applications forthcoming.
Tentative Travel Dates for 2019: Wednesday, November 13 – Monday, November 25
Host a Visiting Student 2020: Stay tuned!
Spanish Language + Culture | Rosa Rabell Scholarship
The Rosa Rabell Spanish Language Study Scholarship is named in honor of P.K. Yonge’s retired Spanish language teacher, the beloved Señora Rosa Rabell.
This is a wonderful opportunity for a deserving P.K. Yonge student to study the Spanish language and culture in Costa Rica. The student will stay with a host family and will participate in an immersion program to expand their knowledge of the Spanish language.
This experience includes airfare, transportation, lodging, regional-style meals, guided sightseeing, entrances to museums, and more. Students will be responsible for obtaining a passport, providing meal money including tips, and providing money for personal expenses.
On Campus Activities | Global Awareness Club
P.K. Yonge’s Global Awareness Club, open to Middle and High School students, involves learning about other cultures, learning about and discussing world news, presenting cultural projects and research, internationally focused community service and the possibility of travel and participation in the Eurochallenge competition.

Awards | Florida Seal of Biliteracy
The Florida Seal of Biliteracy recognizes high school graduates who have attained a high level of competency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in one or more foreign languages in addition to English. To be awarded the Seal of Biliteracy students must complete academic work and formally evaluated in the target language.
Awards | P.K. Yonge Global Scholars Program
Students engaged in the Global Scholars Program are eligible for an award upon their graduation from P.K. Yonge. This award recognizes students who have completed significant work in order to understand the cultures of diverse peoples (including cultural traditions, religion, literature, human geography, and the arts), and who have made significant efforts to communicate in conversational settings with speakers of languages other than English.
Activities that support eligibility for this award are carried out throughout a student’s high school career. See below for details.
