Physical Education

Welcome to Elementary PE!

The goal of our physical education program is to develop the health-related fitness, physical competence, and cognitive understanding about physical activity for all students so that they can adopt healthy and physically active lifestyles.

Physical education provides learning experiences that meet the developmental needs of youngsters, which help improve a child’s mental alertness, academic performance, readiness to learn and enthusiasm for learning.

Your child’s physical education program has been designed to focus on four major strands. Each strand is is designed by the Florida Sunshine State Standards for elementary physical education.

A child in grades kindergarten through primary will be introduced to each of the four strands. Grades 2-5 will continue to refine their skills, and the concepts learned in each of these strands. They will then use these skills in games and sports, gymnastics, and various forms of rhythmical movement.

Each lesson is adjusted to take into account the wide range of skill and fitness levels that characterize children at the elementary level.
