Fall 2020 Return to School
P.K. Yonge is committed to providing the highest quality educational experience and care for all members of the Blue Wave community. With the health and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff as our top priority, the plan to reopen the P.K. Yonge campus is designed to respond to changing circumstances, continue the educational program for all students, and is based on guidance from the University of Florida, UF Health, and the Florida Department of Education.
Current circumstances mean that our school program will not look and feel like the P.K. Yonge program that we love. We look forward to the day that we can all return to campus together as the Blue Wave community.
Campus Reopening Plan and COVID-19 Response
The P.K. Yonge Reopening Plan 2020-21 and COVID-19 Campus Response were developed in consultation with UF Health.
The Reopening Plan 2020-21 provides an overview of steps being taken for the coming school year and shifts made in response to COVID-19. The COVID-19 Campus Response describes procedures and protocols that will be followed on campus in response to COVID-related events including if students/staff/faculty are unwell during the school day and how UF Health engages with P.K. Yonge families.
UF Health Presentation
Dr. Mike Lauzardo, Director of UF Health Screen, Test & Protect, Deputy Director Emerging Pathogens Institute shared information about COVID-19, talked through plans, and answered questions about beginning the 2020-21 school year.
In addition to priorities named above, critical parameters guiding the program design include limiting the number of people with whom any person on campus interacts, avoiding student class location changes, supporting the mental health and well-being of the community, and supporting student learning both on and off campus.
The Virtually P.K. program options offered for the Fall of 2020 will be based on our Virtually P.K. program from 2019-20 school year. Students selecting the off-campus Virtually P.K. program will remain enrolled as full-time P.K. Yonge students. Modifications will be made in response to changing circumstances. As a reference, information at Virtually P.K. will be updated prior to school starting.
