P.K. Yonge officially celebrated the groundbreaking of its new gymnasium, marking an exciting milestone for students, staff, families, and the broader community. The new facility represents a long-standing vision to expand opportunities for student athletics, wellness, research, and community engagement while continuing the school’s tradition of educational innovation.
During the ceremony, school leaders, partners, alumni, and supporters gathered to recognize the collaborative effort that made the project possible. The new gymnasium will provide a modern, state-of-the-art space designed to support athletic programs, physical education, school events, and research initiatives that benefit both P.K. Yonge students and the wider field of education.
P.K. Yonge director Carrie Geiger emphasized the broader impact of the project, noting that the facility reflects the school’s mission and forward-looking commitment to students. “This groundbreaking marks more than the start of construction. It represents a continued commitment—to innovation, to student well-being, and to the belief that public schools can be places of excellence, research, and real possibility,” said Geiger. “We are building something tangible today, but even more importantly, we are building opportunities for our students, for our state, and for the future of education.”
“Now, due to all of you and our community near and far, we no longer have to imagine what we could accomplish with a state-of-the-art facility. We get to live it. This building represents an investment in our youth and the enduring strength of our community,” said Kelly Barrett, P.K. Yonge athletic director. “It is a promise to our students — a promise of resources, opportunity, and a space to grow, to learn and dream big. A place that will empower the next generation to reach their full potential athletically and academically.”
Construction of the new gymnasium is expected to enhance campus life for years to come, creating expanded opportunities for student participation, school programming, and community partnerships. As the project moves forward, the groundbreaking serves as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when a community comes together to invest in the future of its students.
