Elementary – Getting Started

We are so excited to be working with you and your children during the next school year!

As many of you already know, each learning community at P.K. Yonge is lead by seven teachers. There are three teachers and one learning community leader that work with each grade level in a community (K-1, 2-3, 4-5), as well as two year-long teacher interns. Our K-1 community also has a teaching assistant.

With most activities at UF/P.K. Yonge being carried out in a virtual or online setting and the future availability of UF/P.K. Yonge facilities still an unknown, our Kindergarten Assessments originally scheduled for July 22 and 23, 2020 are being rescheduled.

Plans are currently being discussed to determine dates and procedures. Information regarding your assessment dates and times will be shared as it becomes available.

School Supply Lists

School supply lists are posted each year toward the end of the summer.

First Day and Kindergarten Staggered Start

First Day of School
When attending on campus, elementary students arrive on campus after 7:30am at the Front Circle each day. To know what to do on the first day (and every day!), visit: Elementary First Day Procedures. Should any changes in procedure be required for the 2020-21 school year, details will be shared prior to the start of school.

Kindergarten Staggered Start
Kindergarten will have a staggered start in the early part of the school year. During this time, small groups of students attend at different times.  Families will be informed which day and time their children will attend prior to school beginning. These smaller groups allow for an easier adjustment to school. It’s a big step and we are excited about taking it with you, your children, and your family! Should any changes in procedure be required for the 2020-21 school year, details will be shared prior to the start of school.
