What Are the Things Student Government Runs?
Year-Long Committees
- Athletics
- The athletics committee organizes wave rallies, student section themes, and promotes athletic events by creating Instagram posts!
- Communications
- The communications committee focuses on updating the school activities calendar and creating announcements/social media posts.
- Elementary SGA
- The elementary committee is focused on building strong relationships between secondary and elementary students through workshops, mentoring, and guidance.
- Staff Appreciation
- The staff appreciation committee makes and organizes gifts for PK teachers and staff. This committee celebrates everything from birthdays and weddings to retirements. They make cards and stickers and buy gifts to show appreciation to all of the teachers and staff in our school.
- Senior Events
- The senior events committee is responsible for planning and creating engaging events for the senior class to celebrate their achievements and school journey as they approach graduation.
- Policy/FASC
- Our policy council communicates directly with the administration to plan events such as town halls for student questions. P.K. SGA is a part of FASC—the Florida Association of Student Councils. The policy committee is also in charge of any FASC-related events, including writing resolutions and creating a constitution.
- Community Service
- The community service committee serves as tour guides for prospective families, organizes food/clothing/toy drives for local charities, and provides teachers with student representatives to help with activities happening around the campus.
Exclusively First 9 Weeks Committees
- High Tide
- High Tide is an annual homecoming pep rally/showcase. Organizing this event involves communication with many clubs and individuals to have a successful show.
- Homecoming Court
- The homecoming court committee works on the process of electing members of the homecoming court. After people are elected, they coordinate the participation of the homecoming court in the football game, High Tide, and the homecoming dance. Members also plan and advertise homecoming spirit dress-up days.
- Homecoming Dance
- The homecoming dance committee plans and organizes the dance. This includes getting decorations, DJs, and planning the date and location of the party. This committee also works on advertising the dance through posters and social media posts.
- Homecoming Parade
- The homecoming parade committee works to organize the annual homecoming parade and prepare for the event. This includes reaching out to members of the community, such as the Fire Department of Alachua County, the University of Florida Police Department, and the UF cheerleaders along with Albert and Alberta, to invite them to take part in the event. The committee also communicates with teachers, faculty, staff, club sponsors, and coaches to distribute information about the route, timing, and viewing areas for the parade.
- Club Showcase
- The club showcase takes place at the beginning of the school year for secondary students to learn more about the wide range of extracurricular clubs available at P.K. Yonge.
Exclusively Second 9 Weeks Committees
- Winter Market
- The winter market serves as a space for our extracurricular clubs and teams to sell items for fundraisers.
- Winter Spirit Week
- The winter spirit week committee works on developing dress-up days for the week before winter break. They also sell candy grams during the week that kids are able to buy, and the Student Government will deliver them to the students.
- Deck the Halls
- Each grade is assigned a theme and a hallway to decorate as a competition between grade levels.
- Pickleball Tournament & Cookout
- This committee organizes and plans a fun event consisting of a pickleball tournament and the selling of food in a cookout style as a fundraiser for SGA.
Exclusively Third 9 Weeks Committees
- Prom (Juniors Only)
- In this committee, members plan everything for the prom dance in the spring. They work on location, time, decorations, DJ, food, drink, and so much more!
