Administration: Atria Named Principal-in-Residence at UF COE, Geiger Named Principal

P.K. Yonge Principal Named Principal-in-Residence in the UF College of Education

P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School K-12 principal, Dr. Cathy Atria, has accepted a position as Principal-in-Residence at the University of Florida’s College of Education. Dr. Atria will be bringing extensive professional experience to the teaching, research, and service of the College. As Principal-in-Residence, she will teach courses, provide guest lectures, identify and develop practice-relevant examples/modules, and collaborate with faculty on research projects and professional development initiatives and contracts.

The Principal-in-Residence serves as liaison between the College and districts, schools, and agencies to develop and maintain productive relationships that advance the College’s standing and opportunities for growth.

Dr. Atria’s 5-year commitment to P.K. Yonge has been significant. As a participant in the first cohort of the Florida Department of Education’s Commissioner’s Leadership Academy, Dr. Atria led a transformation in how P.K. Yonge teachers are coached and supported in their professional practice. Her passion for student athletics is second to none as she was present at almost every home game and many away games. Most importantly her commitment to equity and diversity have had a profound impact on the school.

 

Dr. Carrie Geiger Named P.K. Yonge K12 Principal

With Dr. Atria’s departure, Dr. Carrie Geiger has been named K-12 Principal of P.K. Yonge. Dr. Geiger has served as an administrator on the P.K. Yonge leadership team since 2012. She was also promoted by the University of Florida to University School Assistant Professor in 2016.

Dr. Geiger has been a classroom teacher, an adjunct lecturer in the College of Education, and most recently an administrator at P.K. Yonge. Her experience spans elementary education, gifted education, and teacher leadership. Dr. Geiger has an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Administration, is a National Board Certified educator and a graduate of the Commissioner’s Leadership Academy.

The P.K. Yonge community congratulates Dr. Atria on her new appointment in the College of Education and welcomes Dr. Geiger as P.K. Yonge’s K12 Principal.
