Announcements, Wednesday, 9/12

Today is Wednesday, September 12th, and it is an A Day.

Homecoming Week is next week September 17th-September 21st. The theme of Homecoming Week is: ‘Forever Yonge.’ The idea is to always be a kid at heart.

Get ready to show your school spirit all week by dressing up for the following Dress up Days:

• • • Monday-Character Day Monday (Dress up as your favorite TV, Movie, or Book character)
    • Tuesday-Twin Tuesday (Imitate another person’s clothing)
    • Wednesday- Decades Day Wednesday (Dress up in the clothing of a famous decade like the 50s, 60s, 70s, etc.)
    • Thursday- Spirit Day Thursday (Show your Blue Wave Spirit)

The three best dressed students each day will win Chick-fil-A lunch for a day. To participate you must show up in front of the cafeteria by 8AM each morning during Homecoming Week dressed to fit the theme. The results will be announced each afternoon.

The entire student body will also vote for the best dressed teacher each day. To vote go to the Student Government Twitter account and click on the link.

Also get ready for Dime Wars. The  grade level who raises the most money for DimeWars will have a pizza party for everyone in the grade in both middle and high school.

Don’t forget to attend the High Tide Pep Rally in the PAC on Wednesday September 19th at 7pm. The cost to attend High Tide is $5. Tickets for all Homecoming events can be purchased in the Business Office.

The BlueWave Homecoming Parade will take place at 9AM on Thursday September 20th. All participating students should check in with their first period teacher and then report to your parade activity or area.

After cheering the football team to victory Friday night we will have the Homecoming Dance in the Gym. The Dance will start at 9pm and end at 11:30pm. It costs $10 to go to the Homecoming Dance. Tickets for all Homecoming events can be purchased in the Business Office. You should dress in semi-formal clothing during the Dance.

Don’t forget that this year Homecoming Week is a short week because there is no school on Friday September 21st.

Juniors and Seniors: Please make sure that you vote for Homecoming King and Queen as well as Homecoming Prince and Princess. Juniors can only vote for Homecoming Prince and Princess. Seniors can only vote for Homecoming King and Queen.

To vote go to the Student Government Twitter account and open the link to the ballot. You must be signed into your P.K. Yonge Google account to be able to vote. Voting begins Monday September 10th and ends on Friday September 14th. The results will be announced during High Tide. Best of luck to everyone on Court!

Reminder to Students who are taking virtual classes: You should be 25% complete  with segment 1 by FRIDAY, September 14th.

Random Kindness Club.  Mrs. Ireland will be sitting by blue tablecloth covered tables outside of the cafeteria.  All are welcome! Hope to see you there!

All middle school students are invited to learn more about the new Science Olympiad club.  All 6th, 7th and 8th grade students are invited to participate in an interest meeting this Friday during lunch in Dr. Cordero’s room, I-112.

The Rosa Rabell scholarship is now open.  Students in good standing who can demonstrate financial need can apply to receive a full travel scholarship to travel to Costa Rica for 2 weeks in June.  Partial travel scholarships will also be awarded to students in good standing. Students selected for the Rosa Rabelais scholarships will participate in a full Spanish Immersion program for 10 days and have the opportunity to explore the country’s culture, cuisine, and home life. Students must be 16 by June 1st and must have completed Spanish 2. Please see Mrs. Santiago or visit our school website for more details and guidelines.  Scholarship applications are DUE October 12, 2018 before 12:00 pm.

Seventh and Eighth graders who are members of the National Junior Honor Society please come to our first meeting in Mrs. Beckett’s room I-109 during lunch on Friday.  Please bring your lunch.

There will be a high school National Honor Society meeting this Monday, September 17th, in Dr. Weller’s room (M350) at the beginning of high school lunch.  Please bring your dues if you have not paid them yet

Reminder: National Art Honor Society meets Thursdays during High School lunch in Mr. Moody’s room.

FROM OFFICER SAVONA:  I just wanted to remind everyone not to leave your backpacks unattended. I have been finding them lying around the gym area and cafeteria areas. In addition to the backpacks, Chromebooks and cell phones have been an issue. These items are valuables and are expensive to replace. Please be responsible for your valuables and treat them like you are at the airport — always being in your  possession or sight of your bags and valuables.

Please everyone get your parking decals. There are still many of you who do not have them. This is for accountability and helps with access control so that we know if you are affiliated to PKY. I am starting to write tag numbers down and will begin to find out who does not have a parking decal. Those who do not have a parking decal will not be allowed to park in the student south lot and will be instructed to park in the far north dirt parking lot.

Remember PKY students, I need your help to keep this campus and everyone on it safe. What that means is if you “See Something, Please Say Something”. We are here to have fun but remember your number one job as a student is to learn as much as you can to prepare you for the next level. Set goals and put in an effort to reach those goals.

The Powder Puff game will be on Tuesday, Sept. 18th at 1:30pm on the PKY football field. Tickets will be sold at the cafeteria at middle school and high school lunch for $2.00.  Show your ticket to your 3rd period teacher on Tuesday to attend the game.
