Announcements, Thursday, 1/17

January 17, 2019

Today is Thursday, January 17th and it is a B Day.

To all students who had class switches:    Please remember to return your textbooks to the teacher of the class you switched out of. It is your responsibility to return your textbooks and any other materials you might have.

Attention Juniors:

P.K. Yonge will select one Student Representative from the Junior class to participate in the 2019 Clay Electric Youth Tour to Washington Contest

One alternate will also be selected in the event that the student representative is unable to attend. The selected student will go on an all-expenses paid trip to Tallahassee for 2 and a half days from Feb. 19-21st.  While in Tallahassee, students will participate in a contest which consists of a written quiz and speech, in addition to touring the state capital and seeing the government in action.  Students will be provided the speech topic and written quiz materials prior to the trip. A panel of judges will determine the four winners based on their combined scores of the written quiz and speech.  Once the contest concludes, students will visit the Senate or House chambers for a mock session, Supreme Court, Governor’s mansion and/or notable museums. At the conclusion of the trip, the four contest winners will then spend an all-expense paid week in Washington, D.C. from June 15-20th.  Interested Juniors should see Mrs. Theiss in Guidance by next Tuesday, Jan 22nd to apply.

Esperanto Club meeting during high school lunch in Magura’s room TODAY.

The College Information and Readiness Club wants you to know that on January 19th there will be a College Fair in Jacksonville, FL from 9 AM-1 PM. Students who plan to attend will want to take their multiple copies of their high school transcripts, ACT/SAT scores, a letter of recommendation if you have one, and a list of their extracurricular activities. You can still pre-register at infinitescholar.org, which is also where you will find the address for the event.

Tickets will be sold on Monday 1-21-19 during High School and Middle School Lunch for students who would like to attend the In-School Girls Basketball Game on Friday January 25th against Hawthorne at 1:30 in the gym. We need everyone to come out and show your support for the Girls Basketball Team. Tickets are $4.00. There will be raffles with purchased tickets during the game and great concessions!

Reminder: There will be no National Junior Honors society meeting this week. Instead, we will meet January 24th during lunch in Mrs. Beckett’s room.

The middle school Science Olympiad team will meet TODAY during lunch and after school in Dr. Cordero’s room.  All members please plan to attend as we will be preparing for our competition on January 19th.

For any Middle School or High School students interested in playing Softball for PK this year, there will be tryouts held on Tuesday, January 22nd. The tryout will begin right after school at 2:30 and last for 2 hours; we will meet up at the softball field. Please make sure to bring all your equipment to tryout. If you want to be on the team but are playing another sport or can’t make tryouts, see Coach Ryan in ISD (Room K-331) before the tryout.

Remember that tomorrow is a teacher workday/student holiday and that Monday we will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday.  Hope to see you at the Bo Didley Plaza to hear our own Keeper of the Dream, Anthony Hardge, give his speech.
