High School | National Honor Society

Students are invited to apply for membership to the P.K. Yonge DRS Chapter of the National Honor Society at the end of their sophomore (10th grade) academic year.  Invitations are sent out to students based on their academic grade point average (a minimum of a 3.5 unweighted GPA or a 3.75 weighted GPA).  A faculty selection committee reviews and evaluates completed applications from students who are eligible for membership.

Membership in the NHS is based upon excellence in four areas:  scholarship, leadership, service, and character.  Eligibility for a membership application requires students to have at least a junior standing and they must maintain the minimum required GPA.  In addition to the academic requirement, there are standards in leadership, service, and character, which are required.  Leadership requirements include a demonstration of leadership in school as well as outside of school.  Service requirements include involvement in service projects since the start of the high school career.  Character requirements include integrity, positive behavior, ethics, cooperation, and reliability in and out of school and classroom maturity.

After students become members of the NHS, they must maintain the high standards of the Society.  Active members in the NHS are required to maintain the minimum GPA or better and live up to the character, leadership, and service ideals of the NHS.

Members of the NHS serve our community in a number of ways. They act as peer tutors, host on-campus blood drives, and conduct fundraisers and drives for local charities.

Already a member of NHS?

If you are already a member of NHS, our first meeting will take place on Friday, August 26th during high school lunch. Remember, regular attendance at meetings is required for maintaining your membership.

When will we meet?

The official club meetings will be the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month during High School Lunch (12:35-1:05). We have reserved the back half of the indoor cafeteria for our meetings.
