K-12 School Counseling Vision Statement
The Comprehensive School Counseling Program will provide opportunities to assist all students as they develop the competencies needed for academic and personal development, positive mental health, and effective life skills, resulting in career and college readiness for each student.
Middle School Students' Developmental Needs
Middle School is an exciting and challenging time for students, their parents, and teachers. During this passage from childhood to adolescence, middle school students are characterized by a need to explore a variety of interests, connecting learning in the classroom to its practical application in life and work, high levels of activity coupled with frequent fatigue due to rapid growth; a search for their own unique identity as they begin turning more frequently to peers rather than parents for ideas and affirmation; extreme sensitivity to the comments from others; and heavy reliance on friends to provide comfort, understanding and approval.
Considering these needs, the School Counseling Department has prepared programs for each grade level that will provide each student their own unique opportunity to grow. We are gearing up for an exciting year of academic, social, and emotional growth for all students.
