Biography

Education: Ph. D. University of Florida, Educational Anthropology – Cultural Anthropology;
M. Ed. University of Florida, Mathematics Education;
B. S. E. University of Florida, Mathematics Education

Dr. Allison teaches mathematics at P. K. Yonge Developmental Research School where she currently teaches Algebra 2 Honors.  She has 30+ years experience teaching mathematics at the middle school, high school and college level.

Her research interests focus on issues of social justice and equity in the secondary mathematics classroom.  Dr. Allison also enjoys folk dancing, hand drumming, camping, and being a part of the Gainesville community.  Dr. Allison’s personal philanthropy is working with the local homeless population.  She serves as a collection point for canned food items, socks (new and used), bottled water, clothing, back packs, camping equipment, cards, books, games, toiletry and other items to help relieve local homeless needs.

Dr. Allison is the recipient of the Florida Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators 2014 Mathematics Teacher Educator of the Year Award.  This award recognizes excellence in teaching, research and service.  Dr. Allison also serves as a member of the Florida Council of Teachers of Mathematics Board of Directors as Historian, and Region 2 Director as well as serving as a subject area expert for the Florida Teacher Certification Exam.
